Man held for killing girlfriend

SIALKOT, June 29: On the request of the Interpol, Sialkot police on Friday arrested a local, Mirza Iftikhar Baig, for killing his Belgian girlfriend in Brussels. According to a press release issued here today by the Sialkot police, a huge contingent of the Naikapura police raided the residence of Mirza Iftikhar Mehmood in Mohallah Imam Sahib and arrested him.

Sialkot police officials said that the accused had killed his Belgian girlfriend in Brussels over a minor dispute in 1986 and had escaped to Pakistan in a bid to avoid being arrested in the murder case.

The Belgian government had issued his arrest warrant. The accused has been sent behind bars.
