5 swept away in Diamer village

GILGIT, June 29: Five people were swept away by floodwater in the Raikote Valley’s Batcholi village, Diamer district, some 110kms southeast of Gilgit, on Friday, police officials said.

Police said the five people were collecting firewood when they were washed away by flood. The bodies could not be recovered despite search by local people and police.

Three of the victims were identified as Rehmat Shah, Saifur Rahman and Said Mir. Names of two women victims could not be ascertained.

An official of the Diamer district said they had dispatched police and workers to the site to monitor the search for the bodies.—Correspondent
