KARACHI, June 28: Criticising the unhygienic conditions in Bin Qasim Town’s cattle market, livestock traders have threatened to stop payment of taxes to the management if the situation persists.

According to sources, after the torrential rains, movement of animals, entry of trucks and other vehicles to the market have almost come to a halt as the main approach road to the largest livestock trading place of the country is under a three-foot layer of sludge.

The Live Stock Traders Association (LSTA) office-bearers have urged the city nazim, DCO, town nazim and other authorities to take note of the situation.

According to the LSTA leaders, the number of trucks coming to the market has declined from 350 to 75 trucks only and even the traders cannot enter the market without wearing long boots.

They also complained of water shortage and long unannounced power cuts and feared an outbreak of animal diseases if the conditions prevailed that might cause meat shortage in the city.

They said that the traders were paying taxes of over Rs15 million to Bin Qasim Town and if sanitary conditions and power and water supply situation were not improved, they would stop paying taxes to the management as they were not getting any facilities.
