TOBA TEK SINGH, Jun 26: The under-construction basement of a plaza, which collapsed in Pirmahal on Saturday, was being reconstructed without the Kamalia Tehsil Municipal Administration’s permission.

A source said the basement at the plaza had not been approved by the authorities concerned. He also said that the material used in the construction was also substandard.

Chuttiana police had arrested the plaza owner, but released him the next day.

PML-N LEADER: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Hamza on Tuesday expressed concern at the government’s ‘failure’ in providing subsidy announced on fertilisers.

In a press statement issued here, he said the cotton crop was in a dire need of fertilisers at the moment and added that farmers were buying costly DAP fertiliser due to the non-provision of Rs70 subsidy on each bag of fertiliser announced about 15 days ago.

PROTEST: On the call of the Anjuman Patwarian, all patwaris of the district continued a complete strike for the second day on Tuesday in protest against the murder of a patwari from Chak 320 GB. The protesters demanded immediate arrest of the killers.

STRIKE: Lawyers continued their hunger strike on Tuesday to show solidarity with Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. They also hoisted black flags on the bar building.
