SHIKARPUR, June 24: Police conducted a search operation in the areas plagued by tribal feuds for people involved in Mahar — Jatoi clashes.

The raids were conducted in the jurisdiction of Lakhi, Chak and Rustam police stations where law and order situation deteriorated following fresh armed clashes between the rival groups.

A heavy contingent of police were called from the neighbouring districts which combed the areas under the supervision of DPO of Shikarpur, Zulfiqar Ali Larik.

These included Habibkot, Dadilo Tarat Jatoi and other parts of the district which were cordoned off by the police for recovery of illegal arms and arrest of criminals.

According to Shikarpur DPO, some suspects were arrested during operation.

He claimed that police succeeded to develop pressure on the tribal chieftains and notables to agree for a settlement of the disputes between Mahar and Jatoi tribes by July 5.

He further said that the federal Minister for Narcotics, Ghaus Bux Mahar, had assured his support for settlement of the feud on behalf of the Mahars, while he was approaching former prime minister, Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi and the federal minister, Liaquat Ali Jatoi, to end the hostilities.

DRIVERS: Drivers working under a national programme in the district and the workers of Pakistan Paramedical Staff Association took out a rally from the EDO health office here on Sunday.

The rally was led by district president of PPMSA, Aijaz Ali Kakepoto, Akhtiar Pathan, Ghulam Nabi Mahar, Ahmed Shaikh and other PPMSA leaders.

They demanded increase in their salaries from the existing Rs2,700 to Rs5,000.
