KARACHI, June 22: While Thursday’s spell of rain brought an all-too-brief break from the heat, the city sizzled on Friday as the mercury touched 42 degrees Celsius. Such temperatures are rarely experienced in the coastal city during June.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast hot weather with chances of thunderstorms today (Saturday), with the temperature expected to remain between 38 and 40 degrees Celsius.

The department has also warned that an approaching monsoon weather system will cause widespread rains across Sindh, particularly in southern Sindh and Karachi which are expected to experience very heavy rainfall within the next few days. Fishermen have been advised to abstain from venturing out between June 24 and 27 since sea conditions are expected to be extremely rough.

Adviser to the Chief Minister on Home Affairs Waseem Akhtar has asked police to warn citizens against bathing in the sea and picnicking along the beaches.
