ISLAMABAD, June 19: Pakistan on Tuesday cautioned India against sticking to its old position on the Siachen issue, making it clear that it would lead to nowhere.

Reacting to Indian defence minister’s statement on Monday that Pakistan would have to authenticate the ‘Actual Ground Position Line’ (AGPL) on the Siachen glacier before any forward movement could be made to settle the issue, Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said: “Repetition of a rigid position that Pakistan has already rejected is not going to be of any help and will lead to nowhere.”

She pointed out that there were “workable proposals” on the table which could help resolve the Siachen issue and underscored: “It is important that Pakistan and India should learn to resolve problems instead of living with them which have the risk of aggravating the situation.”—Q.A.
