Vinod enters semi-finals

KARACHI, June 19: Top seed Vinod Das on Tuesday became the first player to move into the last four of the men’s singles event in the second STA development series tennis tournament by winning his quarter-final.

In a ruthless display he demolished Abdullah Khan 6-0, 6-0 at the PN Karsaz synthetic courts.

The remaining three men’s singles quarter-finals are slated for Wednesday. Robin Das takes Farhan, Asadullah meets Zuhair Raza while Abbas Raza will be up against the winner of Adnan Yousuf/Rana Azmatullah.

Men’s singles:

Second round: Farhan bt Wasif 6-0, 6-0; Syed Zuhair Raza bt Arshad Shahid 6-0, 5-0 – Arshad retired; Syed Abbas Raza bt Abdullah 6-1, 6-1.

Quarter-finals: Vinod Das bt Abdullah Khan 6-0, 6-0.

Boys’ U-13 singles:

Second round: Shahbaz Khan bt Nasrullah 6-0, 6-0; Ramiz beat Murad – walkover; Yayha Essa bt Ali Dawood 6-0, 6-1; S. Ali Imran bt Uzair Qadir 6-1, 6-3.

Juniors’ U-17 singles:

Second round: Abdul Rehman bt Salman Ahmed 6-2, 6-3.

Ladies singles

First round: Eman Malik bt Ruqaiya Bengali 6-0, 6-0; Mehak Tahrani bt Mahim Dada 7-6, 6-4.

Boys’ U-11 singles:

Imran Mooraj bt Saad Pervez 6-0, 6-0.

Wednesday’s fixtures:

Boys’ U-11 singles, boys’ U-13 singles at 9.00am; boys’ U-9 singles, boys’ U-15 singles at 11.00am; ladies’ singles at 2.00pm; men’s singles at 3.00pm.
