ISLAMABAD, June 19: The government has appointed two career diplomats as Pakistan’s new ambassadors to Germany and South Korea. Shahid Kamal will soon take up the ambassadorial assignment in Berlin and Murad Ali in Seoul.

Mr Kamal who is currently the additional secretary (Americas) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was previously ambassador to Sweden, Estonia, Finland and Latvia.

He joined the Foreign Service in 1977 and since then he has held various diplomatic assignments in key missions abroad including Washington, New York, Paris and Jeddah.

He has also worked in the Prime Minister’s Office, the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Conference.

Mr Kemal holds Master’s degree in Political Science and History. He received higher education in London, Paris and Lahore.

Murad Ali, the ambassador-designate to South Korea is currently posted as director-general at the Foreign Ministry. Since joining the Foreign Service in 1980 this will be his first assignment as ambassador. He has previously served in Pakistan’s diplomatic missions in Tripoli, Seoul, Abu Dhabi, Los Angeles, Baghdad and London.

He holds a Masters Degree in Defence & Strategic Studies.— Staff Reporter
