GUJRANWALA, June 19: A murder case accused, who was on hunger strike on Tuesday against highhandedness of jail officials, fell unconscious at an anti-terrorism court when he was produced for hearing.
The court took serious note of it and summoned the jail superintendent and also ordered medical examination of the accused.
Reports said Shah Nawaz of Badiana, who is allegedly involved in a murder, was detained in Sialkot jail where officials demanded bribe from him and tortured him on refusal.
The accused told the court that jail officials detained him in Chaki No 10 where no drinking water or light was available and he was given bread placed on ground. He went on hunger strike on June 14, but the officials kept torturing him.
Denying the charge, the jail officials claimed that he (Shah Nawaz) wanted to create his monopoly in the barrack and blackmailed them.
Another accused, Ijaz alias Baba (a former union council nazim) involved in kidnap for ransom case, also complained about maltreatment by the officials.

A speeding bus after colliding with a lorry went out of control and hit a car coming from the opposite side.
Of six occupants of the car, four died instantly and two were injured. Two bus passengers were also injured in the accident. Of the dead, two were identified Rashid and Rasheed while others’ identity could not be ascertained. The injured were being treated at Gujranwala Civil Hospital.
