MULTAN, June 19: Awami National Party president Asfand Yar Wali Khan has said the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) should quit the Balochistan government and end its alliance with the ruling party if it (MMA) is sincere for a grand opposition alliance.

He was addressing a press conference and the members of District Bar Association, Multan, here on Tuesday.

He said political parties have failed to play their role in protecting state institutions and restoration of Chief Justice of Pakistan. “Only lawyers are playing their role for independence of judiciary.”

Mr Khan demanded end to army’s role in government, formation of a consensus government comprising political groups, intellectuals and representatives of civil society for holding election and transfer of power to elected representatives. He suggested formation of an election commission comprising on those judges who refused to take oath under PCO.

He said the ANP would move court against the voters’ list.

He said if the government could kill Nawab Akbar Bugti in the name of supremacy of law, why it was silent on the issue of Jamia Hafsa in Islamabad. — Staff Correspondent
