KARACHI, June 19: The Pakistan Peoples’ Party staged a huge rally in Lyari Town on Tuesday to condemn the so-called gang war which has claimed precious lives of many innocents.

Holding party banners and flags, the PPP workers led by party’s provincial chief Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Karachi division president Rashid Rabbani and General-Secretary MPA Rafiq Engineer took round of different parts of the locality, particularly areas which were badly affected by the gangsters’ activities.

PPP workers started their march from Kalakot area and after parading through the narrow streets of Kalri, Gul Mohammad Lane and main route of Chawkiwara, they ended their march at Aat Chowk.

They shouted slogans against Sindh governor and demanded his removal.

Speaking at the rally, PPP Sindh chief said it was the prime responsibility of the provincial government to restore law and order but it failed to maintain it.

The PPP leader said that Lyari had been in the grip of violence because of activities of criminal elements for the past two years, but the provincial government did nothing to address the situation.

Holding the governor and provincial home department responsible for it, he asked if the government could not restore its writ in a small town, how it could maintain it in the entire province.

Mr Shah also slammed the government for its failure to provide basic facilities to the people. He said youths were rendered jobless while substandard water was being supplied to the people.

The rally was also addressed by Rashid Rabbani and Engineer Rafiq MPA who assured the people that the PPP would continue its struggle to solve their problems.
