SIALKOT, June 16: A farmer and his two buffalos were killed while his fellow sustained injuries in a landmine blast in Jang village along with the working boundary on Friday evening.
According to official sources, Abdul Waheed and Asif were going back home after grazing their buffalos. They hit landmines planted in the local graveyard. Waheed and buffalos were killed on the spot while Asif sustained injuries. He was admitted to the Sialkot CMH in critical condition.
Sources said the landmine was planted in the bordering villages in 2001-02.
ATTACK: A union council nazim and his unidentified accomplices shot at and injured seven people, including a naib nazim, over a political row in Talwandi Inayat Khan, Pasrur tehsil, on Saturday.
Talwandi Inayat Khan naib nazim Shabbir Ahmad and his companions had tabled a no-confidence motion against nazim Rana Ehsanullah and voting was to be held in a special meeting of the union council on Saturday.
Rana Ehsan and his accomplices opened fire on Mr Ahmad and his colleagues identified as Ehsan Elahi, Rafiq, Shahid, Younas, Sajid Farooq and Basharat Ali who were sitting in his office.
The attackers fled from the scene firing shots in the air. The injured were admitted to the Pasrur THQ Hospital. Rana Ehsan belongs to ruling PML’s State Minister for Defence Ali Asjad Malhi group, while the injured belongs to Variyo group.
Pasrur Saddar police have registered a case.
MASS WEDDING: A ceremony to tie knots of as many as 100 Muslim and non-Muslim couples will be held at Sialkot on Aug 26.
DCO Atta Muhammad Khan told journalists on Saturday that Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool would be the chief guest at the ceremony. He said the aspiring and deserving couples in the district could submit their applications at the offices of DCO, DDOs (Revenue) and TMOs till July 20.
The DCO said the governor had provided Rs5 million for the purpose, while local exporters, industrialists and philanthropists would contribute the remaining amount.
