KARACHI, March 4: Working of the KWSB came under severe attack at the first day of City Council’s budget session when most of the members accused the officials of the utility service of not ensuring equal distribution of water and not cooperating with elected councillors in this regard.
As soon as the house began its proceeding, a number of members started unfolding placards in the hall, which were inscribed with anti-KWSB slogans.
The placards, which were displayed by Awam Dost members, including Saeed Ghani and Najme Alam, read: “Pani Do Warna Kursi Chorr Do”, “Don’t make Karachi a Karbala”, etc.
Some other members of the house, belonging to Al-Khidmat and Al-Khadim groups, also criticized the KWSB for not ensuring uninterrupted water supply in many localities as well as for not taking prompt action on public complaints against water shortage and overflowing gutters.
The protest against the KWSB came to an end when Naib Nazim Tariq Hassan assured the house that he would ask the KWSB managing director to attend the council’s session on March 6 to answer the members’ queries pertaining to acute water shortage problem as well as deteriorating sewerage system.
