PESHAWAR, June 15: The Speaker of the NWFP Assembly, Bakht Jehan Khan, on Friday chaired a meeting here to review arrangements for the upcoming budget session of the assembly.

The meeting was attended by Leader of Opposition Shahzada Gustasip Khan, PPP leader Abdul Akbar Khan, PML(N) leader Anwar Kamal Khan Marwat, ANP leader Bashir Ahmed Bilour, PPP(S) leader Syed Murid Kaazim and Pir Mohammad Khan among others.

The speaker urged the assembly members to fully cooperate and assist the police and security agencies during the budget session. He said the MPAs should not feel uncomfortable during vehicle inspections by police at the entry gate of the assembly building and requested them to set a precedent in this regard.

He said that special security measures would be adopted for the special session. He requested the MPAs, mediapersons and visitors to cooperate with the police.

A police official informed the meeting that only card holders would be allowed to enter the assembly after security checks. He apprised the participants of the proposed security plan. Legislators asked the police official not to be too harsh with visitors coming to perform their duties on the occasion.

The meeting took notice of the provincial law minister’s absence from the meeting.

Earlier, Speaker Bakht Jehan Khan inaugurated the newly constructed mosque at the assembly secretariat. The fully air-conditioned mosque has the capacity to accommodate over 150 worshippers. It was completed at a cost of Rs2.3 million, which included a central hall and basement.—APP
