KARACHI, June 14: Former Pakistan captain Intikhab Alam on Thursday turned down Pakistan Cricket Board’s invitation to attend the domestic cricket meeting in Bhurban.

Following in the footsteps of Javed Miandad, who the other day lashed out at PCB for spending millions of rupees by opting to invite 55 representatives to the hill resort meeting later this week, Intikhab termed the entire exercise as futile.

“I don’t see any logic in going there (to Bhurban) just to give suggestions on a topic that has become ludicrous. To me, it is nothing but a sheer waste of time,” Intikhab told Dawn from Lahore.

Intikhab, who was the manager-cum-coach of the triumphant Pakistan’s 1992 World Cup in Australia, instead urged the PCB to refrain from wasting money unnecessarily.

“There is no doubt the PCB is one of the richest organizations in our country. The way its officials are spending the hard-earned money is simply beyond me. They should do something more meaningful than enjoying their holidays in Bhurban,” he said.

“The domestic cricket structure could have been easily discussed in Lahore at the PCB headquarters.

“The money which is now going to be spent on a meaningless discussion could have been used to develop cricket at the grassroots level,” Intikhab added.
