LARKANA, June 14: The Pakistan Peoples Party, Qambar-Shahdadkot district, has alleged that the names of more than three hundred thousand voters have not been included in the fresh list of this newly created district.
Former MPA and district president PPP Ghulam Mujtaba Isran giving figures to Dawn on Thursday said a recent house census revealed that around 5,79,837 had attained the age of 18 years and above.
Fresh list showed a difference of 3,22,080 as according to it there were only 2,77,557 eligible voters he said and added: “This proves the government departments will to deprive the people of their right to vote.”
Isran termed it a `pre-poll rigging exercise’ and questioned why election commission decreased the number of voters when the house census had proved otherwise and by which formula or yardstick?
He said the slashed detail showed Qambar with 64,877 voters, Shahdadkot 46,594, Nasirabad 36,111, Mirokhan 27, 844, Qubo Saeed Khan 19,223, Warah 56,457 and Sujawal Juejo 26,941 voters, respectively. The cut-down did not end here as 21,010 votes of minorities too, faced the same fate.
Though, house census itself appeared a defective process because of the teachers’ strike while above all was the reduced number of voters in fresh list of Qambar-Shahdadkot district, Isran said.
This was a conspiracy to disenfranchise eligible voters he said and demanded restoration of the old list. The list contained number of voters in this district at 4,84,000 while the new one listed only 2,77,557 which was unacceptable he said.
BRIDE KILLED: One Tarique Buledi strangulated his bride Sartaj Khatoon to death in his house in Gaoshala Mohalla of Qambar town on the wedding night on Wednesday.
The husband surrendered to police on Thursday and accused that her wife had illicit relations with someone else but the brother of the deceased rejected his charges and said his sister was innocent.
