LAHORE, June 11: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has overruled its own criteria for appointing head coaches of its 11 regions. The PCB, in an advertisement, has given the criteria, according to which those who had passed Level-II course are eligible to apply for the post of head coach.

But surprisingly the board has appointed former international all-rounder Naved Anjum as head coach of the Lahore Region, though he has only passed Level-I course.

The PCB has issued the letters to head coaches of the 11 regions on Saturday.

Sources told Dawn the PCB also ignored the aspect of coaching experience as in some cases it favoured the status of Test and international cricketers.

Various Test and international cricketers, who later became coaches, will get Rs60,000 per month, while those who possess coaching qualification will receive Rs50,000.

Sabih Azhar, who has been coaching for the PCB in the Rawalpindi Region successfully for the last five years, will earn Rs50,000 per month. Similarly, Taimur Azam, also an experienced coach appointed for the Islamabad Region, will pocket Rs50,000.

Former Test pacer Jalaluddin, who was appointed for the first time as a regional head coach and had passed Level-III course, will get Rs100,000 per month. Sajjad Akbar is the only other who had passed Level III course.

Head coaches: Naved Anjum (Lahore Region, Rs50,000 per month), Jalaluddin (Karachi, Rs100,000), Ameer Akbar (Sialkot, Rs50,000), Sabih Azhar (Rawalpindi, Rs50,000), Shahid Anwar (Peshawar, Rs60,000), Azam Khan (Multan, Rs60,000), Wasim Haider (Faisalabad Rs60,000), Sajjad Akbar (Quetta, Rs60,000), Sadiq Mohammad (Hyderabad, Rs60,000), Taimur Azam (Islamabad, Rs50,000), Nadeem Abbasi (Abbottabad, Rs50,000).
