Clarification

Published June 11, 2007

LONDON, June 10: Rahul Roy-Chaudhury, head of the South Asia Programme of the International Institute for Strategic Studies, Arundel House, has issued a clarification to a Dawn report (Fauji Foundation chief to attend Ayesha’s book launch).

It says: “Contrary to what Dawn has said, I would like to formally state that no official of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), London, told Dr Ayesha Siddiqa, the author of the book, "Military Incorporated", that the chief of the Fauji Foundation of Pakistan, Ltd. General Arif Hasan (retd) would attend the launch of the book at the IISS. The IISS is not aware of Lt. General Arif Hasan's movements nor has the IISS invited Lt General Arif Hasan to the book launch.”

Dawn adds: The report was based on an understanding that in such situations the author is informed to the effect beforehand. Dawn did not say that the IISS had told Dr Ayesha that the chief of the Fauji Foundation of Pakistan Lt Gen Arif Hasan (retd) would attend the launch of the book at the IISS.

The report said it was understood that the IISS had informed the author about the matter.
