KARACHI, March 3: Two men and a woman were killed in the city on Sunday.

Bandits shot a man to death in Defence Housing Authority in the night.

The police said that the victim, Mian Asrar Ahmed, aged 40, had dropped his wife at their relations’ home in Defence, Phase II. Three armed bandits barged into the house, held the occupants as hostage at gunpoint and started collecting cash, jewellery and other valuables.

Quoting the family, the police said that Asrar Ahmed returned to pick up his wife and knocked at the gate. The bandits opened the door and after a brief scuffle opened fire and fled the scene. Asrar Ahmed suffered bullet injuries. He was rushed to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

A young woman, who was believed to have been poisoned to death allegedly by her husband, was found dead in her Gizri home.

Aliya Bhutto, aged 28, mother of four, was found dead with froth at her mouth, which showed that she had been poisoned, the police said. Her husband, Abdul Fatah, had been missing since her death which led the police to suspect his involvement in the killing, the police added.

The body was sent to JPMC for autopsy where the post-mortem examination report had been reserved till the receipt of the histopathological and chemical tests.

The police said that Aliya’s father, who came from Larkana after learning about the incident, lodged an FIR against his son-in-law.

Unknown assailants killed an elderly woman in her home in Gulshan-i-Iqbal. The police said that Mumtaz Begum, aged 65, was slaughtered in her home in Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s Block-6 in the morning. The woman mostly live alone. Her two sons, who were doctors, resided outside the city, the police said.

The assailants used a kitchen knife to kill the woman, a duty officer at Gulshan-i-Iqbal police station said.

The body was sent to Civil Hospital for post-mortem.

An elderly man was found dead with stab wounds in his Gulshan-i-Iqbal home.

The police said that the body was at least three days old. The dead man had been identified as Mohammed Ismail, aged 70.

The police said that the old man lived alone in his apartment in Eastern Apartment in Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s Block-6.

Neighbours informed the police when they felt a stench coming out of the apartment. The police sent the body to the JPMC for post-mortem.

The police said that they had informed the dead man’s only daughter, who was a doctor and lived in Gulistan-i-Jauhar.

CARJACKING: Fifteen vehicles — 10 cars and five motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Sunday, the police said.

Six cars were hijacked. Four others were stolen. Two motorcycles were hijacked. Three others were stolen.

DIES OF BURNS: An elderly man who suffered burns in his Liaquatabad home on Sunday died in a hospital. Hospital sources said that Nawab brought his father, Mohammed Sami, aged 65, to the hospital with 99 per cent burns.
