KARACHI, June 4: Two Muttahida Qaumi Movement-backed Haq Parast candidates emerged victorious in Monday’s byelection on two union council nazim seats in Jamshed Town.

The by-election for UC Nazim was held in UC-8 (Jut Line) and UC-10 (Jamshed Quarter) of Jamshed Town after three MQM-backed UC nazims resigned from their posts in April. In UC-9 (Central Jacob Line) a Haq Parast candidate Zulfiqar Hussain had already been elected unopposed as UC nazim.

According to official results, Muhammad Aamir of Haq Parast Panel bagged 8611 votes and won the UC Nazim seat in UC-8 (Jut Line) while his opponent Abdul Basit of PPP-backed Awam Dost Panel got only 198 votes.

In UC-10 bypolls, Muhammad Hussain of Haq Parast Panel won the seat by securing

7,651 votes while three other candidates, Muhammad Imran, Javed Ali and Kaleem Usmani got 127, 59, and 27 votes respectively.

Twenty-seven polling stations were established in UC-8 and 34 in UC-10. No untoward incident took place during the bypolls.
