LAHORE, June 3: An enraged mob burnt two trucks on Canal Road in Muslim Town on Sunday after a teenager was run over while another injured in a road accident. Besides this, in four accidents, five people became victim to reckless driving.

Edhi officials said Shoaib and Fahad, residents of B-Block Sabzazar, were run over while doing wheelie by a brick-laden truck near the Muslim Town-Garden Town flyover.

Shoaib, 17, died instantly while Fahad was rushed to the Jinnah Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Muslim Town SHO Naveed Akmal claimed the victims were travelling on Canal Road violating one-way traffic lane when their motorcycle slipped and both riders, Shoaib and Fahad, were run over by a truck coming from the opposite side.

“It cannot be ruled out the teenagers were planning wheelie, but at the time of accident they were only travelling on the wrong side of the road,” the SHO said.

The driver fled from the scene leaving the vehicle on the spot. Another truck, believed to be from the company of the smashed-up lorry, also stopped there. Passers-by, students and relatives and friends of the victims gathered at the accident scene and blocked the road.

They smashed windowpanes of the trucks and burnt them. Muslim Town police officials arrived at the spot after two hours and controlled the situation.

In other smash-up, Nazir Ahmed, of E-Block Johar Town, and Ghulam Abbas, of Sundar, died when their motorcycle was hit by a truck near Chuhng Stop on Multan Road. The driver escaped leaving the vehicle at the accident spot.

A five-year-old girl was killed while three others were injured when a truck hit a Chingchi rickshaw in Guldasht Town in North Cantt. Police said they had shifted the rickshaw driver to the Services Hospital but did not know about the dead or injured people.

“Witnesses say another Chingchi rickshaw driver took the injured girl and three others to some undisclosed place. We admitted rickshaw driver Nadeem to the hospital,” said Guldasht Town Police Post In Charge Khurram. Some witnesses said the girl had died instantly, police said.

The North Cantt police said 12-year-old Noman Haider was killed when a speeding vehicle hit him in Alfaisal Town, leaving him dead instantly.

A 60-year-old man was run over by a vehicle near Gamay Shah, the Lower Mall police said.
