HYDERABAD, March 2: The University of Sindh will establish the Pir Hisamuddin Rashidi Chair to promote research on history and culture.

This was decided at a meeting chaired by thre Vice Chancellor here on Friday.

The meeting discussed the research work done by eminent historian and scholar the late Pir Hisamuddin Rashidi in different languages on various aspects of history.

It formed a committee to prepare objectives of the Pir Hismauddin Rashidi Chair, which will be discussed at a meeting to be held in the third week of the current month.

The university has also established the Centre of Environmental Sciences (CES) to conduct research on the subject and offer courses at graduate and post-graduate level.

The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of scientists and experts of environmental sciences and faculty members of natural and social sciences.

The meeting discussed different aspects of environmental issues faced by the world and decided that the CES would conduct a research to find out ways and means to resolve the environmental problems.

Professor Dr Mohammad Yar Khuhawar was appointed as the first director of the centre.

The meeting further decided that a committee of experts along with the newly-appointed director would frame and prepare syllabus for the courses, which would be offered by the centre for the approval of the academic council.

LUMUS: The inaugural ceremony of the reading-room-cum-library of the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro, was performed here on Saturday.

Dr Ghulam Mustafa Kazi, chairman of the department, highlighted the future plans.

The vice chancellor of the university called upon the doctors to serve the ailing humanity with dedication.

He announced a donation of Rs30,000 for the purchase of books.

PLANTATION: Sindh Minister for Agriculture, Forests, Livestock and Fisheries Hassan Ali Chanhio here on Saturday inaugurated the spring tree plantation campaign by planting a sapling in the premises of the Sindh Museum.
