LONDON, June 2: Most of the speakers at a seminar here on Friday held the MQM and the Sindh government responsible for the killings on May 12. They also called upon the British government to stop Altaf Hussain, the chief of MQM and a British citizen, from ‘inciting violence in Pakistan’.

The seminar was held at the School of Oriental and African Studies by the May 12 Group, which was formed after last month’s violence in Karachi by Pakistani students studying in Britain.

Victoria Schofield, author of a number of books on Kashmir and Afghanistan, urged the British government to look into complaints from several Pakistani groups against Altaf Hussain.

Two MQM legislators, MNA Abbas Haider Rizvi and MPA Sabzwari, also attended the seminar.

Mr Ali Dayan, an official of the Human Rights Watch, put the blame for the May 12 killings on the MQM and the Sindh government.

He said Pakistan `is a military state where there is no respect for human rights’.

The May 12 Group would hold a demonstration at 10 Downing Street on Sunday. It plans to present a memorandum to the British prime minister requesting him to stop Altaf Hussain from addressing rallies in Pakistan.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that Altaf Hussain and former Pakistani cricketer Sarfraz Nawaz have finalised counter plans to embarrass Imran Khan in London and in Pakistan.

Former prime minister Benazir Bhutto is expected to reach here along with her children in end-June.

Political observers said it was an indication that she was likely to attend the All-Party Conference convened by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
