KARACHI, June 2: The Lyari Town Council, which met here on Saturday with its Convenor and Naib Nazim, Abdur Rahim Baloch, in the chair, criticised City Nazim, Syed Mustafa Kamal, and the KWSB officials, including the managing director, for the persisting water crisis in the town.
Soon after the resumption of the session, the council members raised the issue of the water shortage in Lyari Town and vowed to launch a protest drive.
SITE: The Water Board is laying an 18-inch diameter water pipeline in Site Town at a cost of Rs2 million.
The line is being laid to ensure the supply of water to Blocks A, B, C and D of Pak Colony, Hasrat Mohani Colony, Block 1-2 of Wilayatabad, Jauhar Colony, Zuberi Colony, Asif Colony, Old Golimar, Rexer Lane, Mianwali Colony and Hasan Aulia Village, which are located at the tail end of the line and are facing a water shortage.
The Additional Vice-Chairman, KWSB, Mohammed Moin Khan, visited the on-going work on Saturday and directed that it should be completed at the earliest.
He was informed that 80 per cent of the work has been completed and the remainder will take two to three days.
MALIR: Nazim, Malir Town, Ansar Ahmed Shaikh, has directed the KWSB officials to set up complaint centres in every union council of the town in order to resolve the water shortage and sewerage problems.
He said this during a visit to different areas of the town to review the progress of uplift projects. The town nazim also directed the KWSB SE, Abdul Rahim Khatti, to keep complaint centres open during the office timings of the UCs, with phone facility.
He also issued directives for activating a complaint centre in the town’s head office. The town nazim asked people to contact the town administration in case their complaints were not redressed by the relevant officials.
Ansar Ahmed Shaikh asked the XEN Water to take every possible step to ensure the restoration of water pressure at all pumping stations in the town.
ANTI-POLIO DRIVE: Nazim, Shah Faisal Town, Mohammad Imran, inaugurated the 66th round of the anti-polio campaign at the Town Health Office here on Saturday.
He directed the officials to boost liaison with the anti-polio mobile teams to make the anti-polio campaign successful in the town.—PPI/APP
