GUJRANWALA, June 1: Two alleged kidnappers were killed while two others escaped after an encounter in Chenab Bela, Wazirabad, on Friday. Speaking at hurriedly called press conference in his office, city police officer DIG (operations) Khadim Husain Bhatti said Khizar Hayat, Zahid Abbas alias Mudassar, Nasir Abbas, Babar, etc, kidnapped Nasir Javed of Thattha Faqirullah, Wazirabad, a few days ago. Later, they released him after receiving Rs2 million ransom.
On a tip off that the accused were on their way to Phaloki Bela by a car a team of Wazirabad Saddar police station followed them and intercepted them some distance away. They ordered them to surrender, but the accused opened fire on the police team. Police returned the complement and in the crossfire Khizar of Lahore and Zahid of Shadiwal, Gujrat, were killed while their accomplices managed to escape.
Police recovered a Kalashnikov, pistol and Rs500,000 in cash besides other articles from their vehicle.
The DIG said the criminals also kidnapped trader Khalil Bhatti and his two minor sons Jalil and Saad on May 10. They released their victims after receiving Rs6.3 million.
He claimed that he constituted a team of expert police officers who went to south Waziristan and traced the harbourers of the kidnappers Haji Khair Muhammad his sons Dost Muhammad and Dur Muhammad besides a relative Sher Muhammad and requested the Punjab government for their arrest and recovering the ransom money from their possession.
He said Dera Ghazi Khan police already arrested one of the main accused and close associate of Haji Khair Muhammad, Qamaruz Zaman.
ROBBERY: Three armed men on Friday took away cash and valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees from a trader’s house at Satellite Town.
Reports said the gangsters stormed into Sheikh Tariq Yousaf’s house, held up the inmates and took away cash, gold jewellery and other valuables.
DEATH SENTENCE: A local court handed down death sentence with Rs100,000 fine to murder convict Tassadaq Husain.
The convict will have to undergo hard jail for six months in case he fails to pay the fine.
According to the prosecution, Tassadaq killed his wife Zahida Kausar over a domestic issue some two years ago.
Meanwhile, an additional district and sessions judge, Wazirabad, awarded death sentence to Arshad in a murder case.
SHOT DEAD: A woman was shot dead by her brother over suspicion of loose morals at Kot Ishaq village, Aroop Town, on Friday.
Reports said ‘N’, a mother of three, was at her house when Imran visited her and shot her dead. The police have registered a case against the culprit.
