ISLAMABAD, June 1: Central leaders of the Pakistan Teachers United Front (PTUF) on Friday went on hunger strike unto death here at Aabpara Chowk to press for their demands.

Different teachers’ unions from all the four provinces and Azad Kashmir participated in the camp.

Talking to journalists, the protesting leaders vowed to continue their struggle unto death to get their rights.

They said their main demands were regularisation of services, increase in salary, upgradation of scales, abolition of ad hocism, undoing the monitoring system, provision of teaching allowance, and restoration of selection grade, move-over and old commutation system.

Teachers belonging to Murree, Kahuta and Kotli Sattian said three years ago Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi had announced hill allowance for employees performing duties in these areas, but the promise was yet to be fulfilled.

Meanwhile, some teachers belonging to the NWFP also visited the hunger strike camp and assured their complete cooperation. They said they had been fighting this war for the last four years.

Our Correspondent from Taxila adds: The teachers of Attock district have called for abolition of the Punjab Examination Commission and issuance of teaching allowance.

These demands were made in a protest rally organised by the PTUF’s Attock chapter on Friday in Hassanabdal.

They also boycotted the classes in all primary, middle, high and higher secondary schools in both rural and urban areas.

They took out a rally from a local school and marched to the Tehsil Municipal Administration building where they handed over a memorandum to the tehsil nazim for acceptance of their demands.
