KARACHI, May 31: Pakhtun Action Committee (Loya Jirga) Chairman, Shahi Syed, on Thursday asked the heirs of those killed on May 12 to accept the compensation cheques from the Sindh government.

Some of the people, he said, had reportedly returned the compensation cheques to the officials concerned saying that they did not have any instructions from the party to accept them.

The PAC chief also asked the owners of vehicles burnt during 1995 to accept the compensation.

He said that efforts were being made for the granting of leases for katchi abadis, the solution of problems relating to national identity cards and passports and the admission of Pakhtun students in government educational institutions.

Mr Syed also expressed his satisfaction over the government’s decision to withdraw the restriction on two-stroke rickshaws and said the decision would help save thousands of families from starvation.
