Five fall from bus top to death

MULTAN, May 28: Five participants in a marriage party, including three teenagers, perched on the roof of a bus, were killed and four others injured after they were struck against branches of a roadside tree on the Laar-Shujaabad Road late Sunday night.

Ayazabad Maral Rural Health Centre (RHC) SMO Dr Liaquat Tareen said the bus driver on seeing a parked tractor trolley hogging most of the road near Eisewali Pul, veered the bus on the shoulders as a result of which the people sitting on the roof were lashed by the branches of a tree, leaving them badly injured.

Passengers inside the bus became aware of the accident on seeing blood on the windowpanes.

Dr Liaquat said Iqbal, 40, and Shahzad, 13, were received dead while Zafar, 32, Mohsin, 9, and Yamin, 16, were referred to Nishtar Hospital, Multan, with serious head injuries. But they died some hours later.

Four of the injured, including minor Husnain, who sustained minor injuries were treated at the RHC and discharged.—APP
