GUJRANWALA, May 27: The business community has expressed its concern over the rising lawlessness and activities of extortionists and kidnappers.

A group of industrialists said here on Sunday that some unidentified men were demanding extortion from them and threatening them with dire consequences in case of non-payment.

They alleged that the police had failed to provide them security and it had become difficult for them to do business.

They have urged the Punjab chief minister and IG police to provide them protection.

UPLIFT PROJECTS: The Punjab government has released Rs7.1 million for uplift projects of Christian community under the head of prime minister scheme while the amount will be utilised through local governments.

This was stated by an assistant director of local government at a meeting here on Sunday.

He said uplift schemes of as many as 17 Christian localities would be completed.

The projects included construction of boundary wall, sewerage and church.

MEETING: The executive committee of the Pakistan People’s Party will meet in Atawa Chan da Qila By-pass on Monday (today) with provincial president Shah Mehmood Qureshi in the chair.

This was stated by PPP divisional president MNA Chaudhry Imtiaz Safder Warriach here on Sunday.
