LANDI KOTAL (Khyber Agency), May 27: Unidentified men on Saturday night attacked the house of a journalist with grenades, causing damage to some portions of the house.

Nasrullah Afridi, who works for daily Mashriq as its Khyber Agency correspondent, told Dawn the assailants threw two grenades into his home at 8.30pm, but his family members escaped injuries as they were inside a room at the time of the blast. He said the bombs damaged the boundary wall and veranda of the house.

Mr Nasrullah had moved to Hayatabad locality in Peshawar in June 2006 after receiving threats from militants of Lashkar-i-Islam operating in the Bara tehsil of the Khyber Agency.

In his FIR, Mr Nasrullah blamed militants of Lashkar-i-Islam for the attack, saying that the group had threatened to kill him in the May 21 broadcast of its illegal FM radio station.

The Lashkar men had accused Nasrullah of giving what they called undue coverage to their opponents. Nasrullah denied these charges.

The Tribal Union of Journalists on Saturday announced a protest campaign in all seven tribal agencies to protest against the incident.

They also demanded immediate arrest of those involved in the attack on the house of Mr Nasrullah.

The President of TUJ, Mr Nasir Mohmand, has formed an Action Committee to hold negotiations with officials concerned to contact tribal parliamentarians and notables of the area.
