MARDAN, May 26: The Mardan district government renovated several health facilities with the help of the Unicef in 2006-2007 while the local government was focusing on improving them further.

District Nazim Himayatullah Mayar told this correspondent that the local government had also renovated children and women’s wards in the Takhtbai Rural Health Centre.

Similarly, hospital at Rustam and the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) in Mardan were renovated after spending Rs3.527 million during the same period.

Mr Mayar added that the Unicef was also helping build and renovate health facilities in Peshawar which would be completed in 2007-2008.

He said that upgradation of the Lundkhwar hospital, Katlang and Shahbaz Garhi Rural Health Centres would be completed soon. The renovation of the Nursing and Public Health School in the Mardan Medical Complex, extension of the Toru Rural Health Centre and the DHQ hospital in Mardan would be completed in 2007-2008.
