KARACHI, May 24: The Sindh government has placed 1,631 young post-graduates in various departments under the National Internship Programme launched by the federal government.
Most of the post-graduates have been placed in colleges, universities and hospitals where there is a shortage of staff, especially in the interior of Sindh in health and education departments.
The universities where most of the internees have been placed include Karachi, Sindh, NED, Dawood and Mehran. The government departments are: finance and women development directorate and population welfare. Most of those selected are qualified in computer science, and had applied online.
Additional Secretary Ejaz Memon told Dawn that the trainees have been placed in the departments of their choice.
He said 1,631 students are part of a total workforce of 8,000 postgraduates, but there are reports that the federal government will select another 20,000 postgraduates under the scheme.
“We are providing them a best environment suited to their qualifications under the internship programme which is also a good source of income to support their families,” said Aijaz Ahmed Memon.
Of the total 1,631 internees placed by the Services and General Administration Department (S&GD), the metropolis has accommodated 1,047 while the rest have been accommodated in the interior of Sindh.
Sehar Iqbal, Naureen Kanwal, Sana Fatima Pathan, Sanobar Nisar Abbasi, Sana Zaka Farooqi, Ishrat Bano, Afsheen Rizvi are among the girl candidates who have been assigned duties in the S&GD.
Sehar Iqbal is MA in International Relations from Karachi University. Naureen Kanwal did her masters in education from Karachi University and before joining the Services and General Administration department (S&GD) as an internee was doing some part time job during studies to support her family.
Sana Fatima Pathan from Hyderabad is MCA in computer science. She will be assigned the job of office-automation and will design software for the S&GD. Sanobar Nisar Abbasi has done MBA from Shah Abdul Lateef University Khairpur Mirs.
Sana Zaka Farooqi is a postgraduate in International Relations from Karachi University. Ishrat Bano did MA in Urdu literature from Karachi University while Afsheen Rizvi is MA in General History from Karachi University.
