55.7m CNICs issued

LAHORE, May 21: The National Database Registration Authority (Nadra) has issued 55.7 million computerised national identity cards so far. According to officials, the authority has registered 37.3 million below the age of 18 as well. It has also issued over 3.5 million machine readable passports in Pakistan till to-date.

They said in recognition of Nadra’s development of IT solutions, processes and successful implementation of various projects, an Outstanding Achievement Award had been conferred on it during Cardex, 2007, held last week in Cairo, Egypt.

The Cardex conference and exhibition has been a mainstream event for the past four years and focuses on smart-card applications and innovations, biometrics, border-control management, e-passports and banking and card issuing.
