RAWALPINDI, May 21: The combined opposition staged a protest demonstration here on Monday against the killings of opposition political workers by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in Karachi on May 12.
Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA), Muslim League-Nawaz and Tehrik-i-Insaf jointly staged the demonstration.
Muhammad Hanif Abbasi MNA, Sardar Naseem, Shakeel Awan, Dr Muhammad Kamal, Zahid Qureshi, Raja Ishfaq Sarwar, Maulana Abdul Majeed Hazarvi, Shaheen Akbar Khan, Shamsur Rehman Sawati and several other leaders led the demonstration.
The participants of the rally carrying banners and placards inscribed with anti-MQM slogans marched from Murree Road to Marrir Chowk.
They were chanting slogans against MQM and the government and in favour of the Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry. When the demonstrators reached at the Rialto Chowk it took the shape of the procession.
Speaking on occasion, the leaders of three opposition parties demanded arrest of MQM chief Altaf Hussain. They said that MQM was involved in the mayhem but the government turned a blind eye to its terrorists activities.
They said a new movement has been launched to establish democratic government, for the removal of dictatorship and for the supremacy of constitution as well as Parliament.
They said the removal of the governmnent was a must for the independence of judiciary and freedom of expression, restoration of constitution and democracy.
They also stressed on the need for unity of all the opposition parties. — Agencies
