KARACHI, May 21: Additional district and sessions judge (South) Munawar Sultana on Monday awarded five-year rigorous imprisonment to a driver for crushing a woman to death.

It was reported that trailer driver Bakht Zada had crushed Erum, 24, to death in the limits of the Defence police station on November 23, 2004. The court sentenced him to five-year rigorous imprisonment and fined him Rs643,707 to be paid to the heirs of the victim.

In another case, the same court awarded three-year rigorous imprisonment to Mohammad Arif Qadri and his accomplice Imran.

They are stated to have committed robberies in the limits of the Gizri police station and were rounded up on April 7, 2004. The third accused in the case, Shaukat, is still at large. The court fined each of the convicts Rs25,000.
