LARKANA, May 18: The Mirjat family, who had refused to accept the jirga decision of handing over two minor girls in compensation to settle the alleged 'Karo-Kari' matter, was receiving threats to silently bow before the verdict or face consequences. Members of the family who came to Larkana on Thursday and met media people, have safely reached their village near Hamal (Kasho) in Qambar-Shahdadkot district, sources told Dawn on Friday.

Raees Hassan Jat and Umar (Attaur Jat), who had been the key characters in the jirga, had gone underground after the matter crept into the press, sources said. But through their cronies they were constantly harassing the Mirjat family with threats of accepting the jirga verdict.
