KASUR, May 18: More than 200 people, including farmers, led by Chunian tehsil nazim held a protest demonstration against growing lawlessness and blocked the road for about one hour by burning tyres on the Allahabad-Chunian Road here on Friday.

Rana Akbar, the brother of ruling party nazim Rana Abid, had an accident with union council nazim, Mukhtar Ahmad who belonged to the ARD. They exchanged hot words and Mukhtar shot at and injured Akbar. He was rushed to the THQ hospital from where he was referred to Jinnah Hospital, Lahore, owing to his critical condition.

Later, the supporters of Rana Abid held a demonstration and raised slogans against the police and demanded immediate arrest of the accused.

Meanwhile, police high ups reached the spot and the demonstrators dispersed peacefully on their assurance to arrest the accused.

STRIKE: Federal Housing Minister Asif Nakai ordered police on Friday to arrest the killers of a mobile phone dealer.

The minister held a meeting with traders of Pattoki, representatives of social organisations, nazims and councillors and police officers to avoid strike by the traders in protest against the murder.

The traders pulled the shutters of their shops down in protest on Thursday. The shopkeepers announced a complete strike for Friday as police failed to arrest the robbers contrary to the DSP claim to nab the gang within 24 hours.

The traders ended their strike on the assurance of the minister.

ROBBED: Eight masked men deprived a farmer of his tractor along with 150 maunds of wheat near Atari Karam Singh police post on Friday.

Muhammad Din was on his way from Talvandi to Chunian when the incident took place. The robbers injured him when he put up resistance and threw him in fields.

Police are investigating.
