KARACHI, May 17: A pioneer in the field of angiography, Dr Abdul Haq Khan, who died on May 11 at the age of 75, was remembered by his friends and admirers at a condolence meeting on Thursday.

The meeting was organised by the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT). In different capacities, the late cardiologist had also served the National Institute of Cardiovascular Disease, the SIUT and the Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases, where he was director of the Cath Laboratory.

An old friend of Dr Haq, Prof Mohammad Sharif said the deceased was a dedicated professional and pioneer in the field of invasive cardiology.

Prof Anwer Naqvi described Dr Haq as a cardiologist of the poor.

Prof Samad, director of the KIHD, said Dr Abdul Haq Khan had the credit for the establishment and training of staff of nearly all institutional angiography-cath labs of the city.

According to him, the doctor worked hard and did not charge poor patients for angiographies or consultancies.

Prof S. M. Rab saw in his death a great loss for poor patients. He asked young doctors to emulate his humanitarian aspects of profession.

SIUT Director Prof Adibul Hasan Rizvi recounted his services for the SIUT and noted that a legend had passed away. “His death is mourned not only by his family and patients but also by doctors, students and trainees who are today consoling one another for the loss of a great physician and teacher,” he added.

Former DCO of Karachi Shafiqur Rehman Paracha said Dr Haq’s outpatient clinics in most days wore the look of an all-Pakistan gathering of poor patients. He hoped that medical professionals of today would also see as many patients as possible free of cost, which could be the best way to pay tribute to the cardiology treatment pioneer.
