LAHORE, May 16: Fancied bay colt Royal Luck landed the feature event of the Lahore Gymkhana Midweek Day/Night races at the Racecourse on Wednesday. The three-year-old colt, who was trained by Rashid Latif and ridden by Atif Javaid, beat mare Eid by over four lengths.

Running ahead of the field, Royal Luck backed at 30 to 100 favourite. He clocked a fast time of 55 3/5 seconds over distance of 900 metres.

Philosopher finished third, a distance further behind while Major Rana managed to hit the frame among seven runners.

This was Royal Luck's second successive victory within three days.

A race earlier, fancied dark-bay filly Tan Man Dhan salvaged prestige of her stable by winning the supporting event to break her career's maiden streak.

The filly from Cry For The Clown had won the races on two occasions but lost them on objections.

Owned by Arbab Nur Mohammad Khan and trained by Haji Fazal Hadi, she beat mare Remember You by over five lengths.

Filly Ferrari and gelding Sher-e-Lahore completed the frame among eleven runners.

The second race, a class-VII division-II-B, turned out to be the most closely contested one in which at least four horses were backed but long shot Shah Pari emerged victorious.

She defeated favourite Tosca by half a length while Tosca nosed out Leader's King by a neck's margin. Blu's Wendy finished fourth, another six lengths behind.

Apprentice riding boy Tariq Habib rode Shah Pari.

Three favourites obliged punters when a card of five events went through before a small gathering of sports connoisseurs. They were: Ikon, Tan Man Dhan and Royal Luck in the 3rd, 4th and 5th races.

Lucky Star and Shah Pari, who won the first and the second races were available at long odds.
