KARACHI, May 16: Four men, arrested in Lahore on suspicion of having links with a militant group, were handed over to the Crime Investigation Department (CID) Karachi, who brought them to the city on Wednesday, sources said.

They said that Obaid, Yusuf, Faisal and Wasif had been arrested three days ago from a locality in Lahore on a tip-off and were handed over to Karachi’s CID. They were said to be affiliated with the militant group of Qari Zafar, believed to be the mastermind of the US consulate car bombing in March this year, in which a US official and three others lost their lives.

A CID official, on condition of anonymity, said: “We do not have any criminal or terror record of the arrested suspects and their names are also not mentioned in the ‘Red Book,’ a booklet containing basic information of wanted terrorists.”

However, it is believed all four of the suspects would be produced before a court as soon as their shifting to Karachi is declared officially on paper.
