NEW DELHI, May 16: Sikh students in the capital must not cut their hair or trim their beards if they want to study at schools and colleges run by their community, a governing body official said on Wednesday.

“Sikh students who want to enrol in educational institutes managed by the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee must follow the tenets of the faith,” said Kulwinder Singh, the organisation’s law officer. This was the first ruling of its kind in India, he said. The organisation runs more than 30 schools and colleges in New Delhi and its suburbs.—AP
