ISLAMABAD, May 14: The Sindh police here on Monday arrested the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Mirpurkhas, Saleemullah Khan, official source said. DIG Saleemullah was wanted by the Mirpurkhas police in the case relating to the kidnapping of the Munnu Bheel family.

Munnu Bheel and his family were allegedly kidnapped by a landlord after the family refused to pay back a loan they had owed to the landlord in 1998.

The kidnapped people were Kheero, 70, Shirimati Akhu, 60, (his wife) Shirimati Moutan, 40, Jala, 25, Shirimati Mumal, 13, Chamio, 10, Kanjee, 8, Shirimati Dhailee (daughter) and a relative, Katro.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan in a suo motu notice had taken up the case of missing persons and directed the Sindh police to locate the family.

DIG Saleemullah was staying with his relatives in Islamabad (in the jurisdiction of Aabpara police) when on Monday a police party carried out a raid and picked him up.
