TOBA TEK SINGH, May 14: Two policemen and as many prisoners were injured seriously in a clash here on Monday at the newly established district jail. Reports said under-trial Ijaz alias Jajja of Gojra was being taken to a court. At the jail corridor, he refused to wear prisoner uniform and a scuffle took place between him and jail staff.

In the meantime, other inmates started chanting slogans against deputy superintendent Saeed Akhtar and pelted stones at jail staff as a result two constables Karamat Ali and Shahid Farooq were injured and the prisoners held them hostage.

The police opened fire on prisoners in order to get their colleagues released. Two inmates Bilal of Sheikhupura and Fayaz of Gojra were injured seriously in the firing. DCO Nawazish Ali and investigation SP Zaheer Ahmad reached the spot.

The DCO held negotiations with the prisoners and got both the constables released.

The injured prisoners and constables were admitted to DHQ hospital.
