DUBAI, May 10: International Cricket Council (ICC), the game’s governing body, feels that any official comment on selection of dope-tainted fast bowler Mohammad Asif in Pakistan team for Abu Dhabi series may prejudice any hearing by Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).

James Fitzgerald, Communications Officer for ICC, while commenting on the situation, said on Thursday: “As you know the ICC has a zero-tolerance approach to drugs in our sport. However, in relation to this specific case of Asif, it would not be appropriate to comment as the matter is currently being pursued by WADA in CAS and we would not wish to prejudice any hearing by making an official statement. As we have said before, ICC supports WADA’s decision to take the case to the CAS but further than that we will not comment.”—Agencies
