LAHORE, May 9: Long shot bay Unter won the feature event of the Lahore Gymkhana Day/Night Midweek races at the Racecourse on Wednesday. This was fifth and last race of the day, ran over 900 metres.

Ridden astutely by M. Nasir, the five-year-old bay horse took lead right from start of the race and maintained it till the end. He beat Cobbler by about four lengths.

Great Bulbul finished third and thus ended her winning streak. The loss gave a blow to the filly's good reputation.

The races attracted a sizeable crowd of fans following early morning light rain in the city which turned the weather little fair after some harsh hot days.

A race earlier, the three to one chance bay gelding, Philosopher, surpassed six rivals to win the supporting event, the Kot Lakhpat Plate Class-V Division-II race which ran over 900 metres.

Philosopher beat Weldon Shogun by six lengths. Favourite Dam Dama Dam finished third, one length further behind while Scooby Do completed the frame.

Earlier, the odds-on favourite bay gelding, Super Master, proved his worth by outclassing his eleven rivals to win the second race.

He beat neglected My Shanga by a big margin of nine lengths. Shah Pari and Wendy completed the frame.

Only two favourites — Dogar Gift and Super Master — obliged punters in the five races.

The 80 to 100 favourite mare, Dogar Gift, won the opener while Super Market came out triumphant in the second race of the day.
