HYDERABAD, May 9: Ninety- eight more patients of gastroenteritis reported at hospitals in Hyderabad and adjoining areas on Tuesday and Wednesday as government failed to control the disease caused by intense heat, supply of contaminated drinking water and consumption of rotten vegetables and fruits.
According to information collected from the directorate- general of health, majority of gastroenteritis patients was of children.
Out of the 98 patients, 24 have been admitted in hospitals while others were discharged after getting preliminary treatment.
Meanwhile, there has been no respite in load-shedding. Electricity continued to play hide and seek with the people day and night. Power outage has caused shortage of water supply. For the second consecutive day, Qasimabad and parts of Cantonment areas, were without drinking water.
HEATWAVE: Like other parts of the country, Hyderabad also remained in the grip of intense heat for the last few days as a result of which routine life in the city remained disturbed, APP reports.
Business activities in Hyderabad were dull as people preferred to stay indoor. Roads and streets and markets wore a deserted look.
The flow of vehicular traffic in different parts, especially on main roads and commercial areas of Hyderabad City remained thin.
Meanwhile, doctors have advised the people to take precautionary steps to avoid health problems from scorching heat. PPI/APP
