PESHAWAR, May 9: Lawyers on Wednesday observed a “thanksgiving day” to celebrate suspension of Supreme Judicial Council proceedings.

Scores of lawyers danced to the beat of drums here. The jubilant lawyers also distributed sweets.

They reiterated their resolve to maintain the momentum of their struggle against the government.

They hailed the Supreme Court’s staying the SJC proceedings in the reference filed against Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry by the president.

The lawyers said the “historic welcome” the chief justice received in Punjab, Sindh and the NWFP proved that the masses were aware of the government’s undemocratic plans.
