NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, May 6: Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly, Maulana Fazalur Rehman said here on Sunday that any deal between Benazir and Musharraf would adversely affect the people and the country.

Talking to journalists in Kundha Khahi near Naushahro Feroze, the JUI-F chief said that this deal would pave the way for an operation against ‘Taliban’ and religious elements in the northern part of the country.

The Maulana said that Ms Bhutto was impressing upon America and was also trying to assure it that she would perform better and more effectively than Musharraf. To a question, he said that his party would contest elections from the MMA platform. However, he said that seat adjustment in certain constituencies would be worked out keeping in view the ground realities.

He said that PPP should cooperate with other opposition parties for removal of Musharraf.

Terming the reference against CJP Chaudhry Iftikhar illegal, he said currently all the parties were united and working against Musharraf.

The MMA leader said that lawyers, people and the political parties were united and wanted an independent judiciary in the country and extended MMA’s outright support in this regard.

The Maulana was in the town to condole death of Mufti Ghulam Qadir Memon, a religious scholar, who passed away a couple of days ago.
