Cueists named for Doha event

KARACHI, May 5: Punjab’s Imran Shehzad who has excelled in two forms of baize game (snooker and billiards) and Yousuf Haroon will represent the country in the upcoming Asian Billiards Championship being held at Doha, Qatar, from May 26.

Imran is the reigning national billiards champion and had represented the country in the event at Doha Asian Games. Yousuf who has also proved his potential will make his debut in the event.

Meanwhile, the first phase of Sindh Snooker Cup begins at Area Snooker Parlour from May 15, organisers announced on Saturday.

Last date for submission of entries is May 10.

According to the format, top eight players from each of the four phases are to compete in final league for getting entry in the 2008 national championship. Top 16 national ranking players are joined by as many qualifiers from the provincial cups.

Reigning Sindh Cup champion Farrukh Usman has been top seeded followed by last year’s losing finalist Kashif Khan.
